Why Consider Buying on Costa Rica's Caribbean Coast??
I've been fortunate to live in Costa Rica for five years now, 3-1/2 of those years I lived on the Caribbean coast in the small village of Cahuita. In my years of traveling I have never been to a place as beautiful and relaxing. The vibe is quaint, laidback and a bit on the eclectic side. It is paradise!
Real estate prices on the Caribbean coast are still very reasonable but as more people discover its beauty prices will rise rapidly. This is why I believe the time is perfect to buy a piece of land for later retirement, a second home or even a great place for a full-time expat situation.
I'm not the only one who feels this way. Tom Rosenberger of Costaricahomebuilder.com sent me the following message:
I've lived in Costa Rica since 1992 and for six years lived on a Pacific Ocean beach in Guanacaste and the only beach I still go to in CR for pleasure is Punta Uva. It is located on the Atlantic Ocean past Puerto Viejo, close to Manzanillo, which is the end of the road in southeast Costa Rica. It has a couple of small hotels and restaurants, and a small residential area. When you’re down there you should treat yourself to a drink or meal at Maxie’s restaurant in Manzanillo. You can’t miss Maxie’s because the road dead ends into the building right on the beach. Punta Uva is most known for its excellent beaches and the Punta Uva butterfly garden, which has an amazing variety of tropical butterflies. The actual point of Punta Uva is a rocky promontory which extends out over the lovely Caribbean Sea. The rock is a great place to explore, covered with lush jungle, and a trail leading to up to a great lookout point at the top. To the north-west of the point there is a sheltered cove with great swimming. One of the most popular beaches in the area, especially among the locals, this beach even offers kayak rental during the tourist season, and is a great spot for water sports and just lying around in the sun. A short access road leads down to this beach right across the main road from the Punta Uva grocery store, and there is parking right next to the beach. To the south-east of the point, the town of Punta Uva comes right down to the beach, with several beach-front houses and a restaurant or two. This region also has excellent beaches, with white sand and no reef.
So, if you're thinking of buying property in Costa Rica don't discount the Caribbean side. Over the next 10 days, I will be posting nine different Caribbean properties for sale. If you have questions send me a quick email at: info@travelcaribbeancostarica.com.

Beachfront for $50,000...is it possible?
I hope you had a great holiday weekend.
I want to address the folks out there who write to me or want to write to me asking about a beachfront lot for $50,000 or so. If you believe in miracles you can probably still find something like this in Costa Rica. But if you are more realistic you should realize that those days are pretty much over here. Even on the Caribbean side, if you want to be in front of the sea you're going to have to pay more. Now, if you're okay being a bit inland it is still possible..mountain property with great views and sometimes even oceanview property can still be found but you should be realistic about the market here.
As everywhere in the world real estate is about location. So if you want to be in Guanacaste, for example, you have to know that you'll have to pay more for whatever you buy.
Just wanted to give you a reality check to start your morning!
If you're looking to buy property in Costa Rica write to me and let me know what you're looking for, realistically of course. I'll put the word out and see what I can do to help you. Or if you have a property you want to sell let me know that too and I can keep it in mind for my buyers.
Take care and have a great week!

Dominical Deal--Distressed Property Owner
This is the busiest week in Costa Rica--Semana Santa--or Holy Week. It's the time when all the Costa Ricans take vacations and head to the beaches. The word is that about 1 million Costa Ricans leave the Central Valley for down time at the beach. For this reason, I chose to stay in the Central Valley!
I have a great deal for you if you're looking to buy land in the south central zone of Dominical. Dominical is in the top two of my favorite beaches in Costa Rica. It's a funky little beach town perfect for relaxing.
The owner of this 5 acre property is an American guy who has lived down there for several years. He built an amazingly beautiful home about 15 minutes by car from Dominical Beach. This huge 4300 square foot home is an upstairs/downstairs type duplex if you will. Each floor has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, living room, kitchen..there's a large two-car garage, everything you need to make a home. You'll have a breathtaking ocean view and privacy but with easy access to good roads and to the area. In addition, he has an extra lot adjacent to the property which can be sold or developed.
Now here's the deal. He's financially distressed and open to offers of any kind. He is willing to make deals which could include:
Buying the entire property at an incredible price--all offers considered
Becoming a partner in this property with him which would entitle you to one floor of the house ..basically your own house..and the opportunity to split off the lot and sell it to split the cash
If you choose the second option you could come in at $50-$60,000 which would cover you for the first year and after that he would arrange a payment plan.
Any way you do it this is an incredible deal for someone.
If you're interested, send me an email at info@travelcaribbeancostarica.com with your name and phone number and I will have him call you to discuss all the options or I will give you his phone number. I can also send you photos of the property.
And let me tell you that this guy is highly motivated and has even considered a raffle to get rid of this property so don't wait as I don't think it's going to last long. I consider this to be probably the best deal in Costa Rica at the moment.
Hey people, enjoy your weekend!!

It's Who Ya Know Not What Ya Know....
I'm sure you've heard that expression at some point in your life...it's not what you know but who you know. Well, in that vain and because I was getting cabin fever, I did a little traveling over the past couple months. First, it was to the beach at Dominical on the south Pacific side and then on down to the Osa Peninsula. Wow, what beautiful country! I loved the beach at Dominical and that is where I met Mike, a gringo who has lived down there for a number of years and who has lots of local contacts in the entire south Pacific region. Mike knows about lots of local folks who are looking to sell land so we'll be working together in the future. If you are interested at all in the area of Quepos, down to Dominical and Uvita and then further down to the Osa Peninsula just send me an email with what you're looking for and I'll put hound dog Mike on it.
Then...I was in Puerto Viejo and Cahuita for a few days. Many of you know that this part of Costa Rica is my favorite. It is where I lived for 3-1/2 years and where I still have many friends. And personally, I think the lushness and greenness of the area is unbeatable in all of Costa Rica. Although, I do have to say that the Osa is right up there as well. Anyway, one friend of mine in the Caribbean is now in the real estate biz. I don't want to name names but this person is a real go-getter and has pretty much grabbed up most of the properties down that way. I have a new partner in this person because we have a relationship BASED ON TRUST. Most of you know that's my big thing. So, let me know also if you're thinking about something on the Caribbean side and I'll see if we can find it for you.
I love to travel and I especially love traveling in Costa Rica. I mean we have everything here: mountains, beaches, two oceans, volcanoes, rivers, amazing wildlife and vegetation...wow!
You can reach me at email: info@travelcaribbeancostarica.com. Have a great weekend!
